- Greetings:
-
- What does this flaw in some A3000 motherboards do? From what I gather,
- early Revision 7.x/8.x motherboards have the diode reversed. And that
- this defect only affects the external DB25 SCSI port. What are the
- symptoms of this being the case? I've no way of determining if mine is
- this way [Revision 7.3] but have run into a problem. Below is my
- situation:
-
- A couple of days ago, I bought an NEC [Model CDR-35D-01] double speed
- external SCSI CDROM off the 'Net from a PCer [yuck!] It arrived and I
- tried to hook it up. It came with an NEC SCSI controller card for an
- IBM, but of course I didn't need it. The supplied cable was a db25 to
- 50 pin Centronics. The db25 was meant to attach to the external scsi
- port while the 50 pin centronics attached to the CDROM. When this was
- attached with the computer's power turned OFF it got instantly VERY
- HOT and produced a noxious smell! I immediately removed it. Could this
- be from a terminal power diode being reversed or am I barking up the
- wrong tree? A SCSI cdrom from NEC back in 1990 may not be 100% but one
- of those 'pseudo-SCSI' ones that commonly proliferate the dumb PCers'
- market.
-
- IN SHORT, HELP!!!! Leave me mail. Thanks...
